Slaven Bilic has insisted that West Ham are ‘doing their best’ to complete a deal for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho despite the proposed move stalling on numerous occasions over the past weeks.

The Hammers lodged a club record bid of £27.1 million for the Portugal international earlier this month, however with it having being rejected by Sporting, they have since upped their offer to £32 million – an offer they were led to believe would be enough to secure the 25-year-old midfielder.

However, Lisbon have again increased their asking price for the star, and are now demanding around £40 million, and despite the difficulties, Hammers boss Bilic believes a deal for the midfielder will be done by the end of the week.

“It’s not frustrating, it’s the position that we have been in trying to do for a few seasons.” said the Croatian speaking on whufc.com.

“In my opinion, we need someone to boost our team and quality and we need that position and that’s why we also offloaded some players to get the budget for a player for that position.

“It’s not a squad player we need – it’s a quality player. It’s not easy to get them but we are doing our best and hopefully we’re going to do it.”

The Hammers have until 11pm August 31st to complete a move for Carvalho when the summer transfer window officially shuts.
