Aston Villa are closing in on securing a loan deal for West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgrass, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The Scotland international has been told he is ‘free to leave’ the London Stadium and a number of clubs have expressed interest in the 29-year-old including Sunderland and Brighton, however Villa are confident they can beat off the competition and acquire his services.

Snodgrass joined West Ham back in January in a £10 million move from Hull City, but has failed to make an impact in East London and now finds himself surplus to requirements. The Scot – who  failed to score in 15 appearances for the Hammers last season – has played no part in the club’s opening two Premier League games against Manchester United and Southampton.

Should he complete his move to Villa, Snodgrass would be re-united with his former manager Steve Bruce – the man who signed brought him to Hull City in 2014.
