Arsenal are not expected to make a last minute move for West Ham target William Carvalho despite their long term interest in the Portuguese midfielder, reports the Daily Star.

West Ham have been in negotiations over the transfer of the 25-year-old Portugal international with current club Sporting Lisbon over the past few weeks, however a deal is yet to materialise with the two parties unable to agree on a suitable fee for the player.

The Hammers have offered around £32 million for Carvalho, however Sporting are holding out for a fee closer to £40 million for their prized asset.

The ongoing negotiations have sparked worries amongst West Ham fans that a deal for the midfielder may not be completed in time, with the transfer window closing on August 31st.

Arsenal have long been interested in Carvalho, but despite rumours they make make a late move for the player and match Sporting’s £40 million asking price, the North London club are not expected to rival the Hammers for his services.

Carvalho would become West Ham’s 6th signing of the summer if he complete his move with the club already having completed deals for Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart, Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Sead Haksabanovic.
