West Ham youngster Ashley Fletcher says he is delighted with his performance during the Hammers 2-1 pre-season victory over London rivals Fulham.

The former Manchester United striker claimed a goal and an assist, playing a vital role in the victory over the Cottagers in Graz.

Fletcher laid in Manuel Lanzini with a smart pass to open the scoring on 14 minutes, before himself making it 2-0 five minutes before half time as he capitalised on a wayward touch from Fulham keeper David Button to slot home in an empty net.

Speaking on whufc.com after the victory, the 21-year-old said: “As a striker you’ve got to gamble, I put the keeper under pressure, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don’t – and luckily tonight I got it.

“We came out here to build fitness but it’s still nice to score a goal and get an assist.”

Fletcher scored twice during pre-season in Austria last season too, and hopes he can continue his good form in what he described as a ‘lucky place’ for him.

“Austria is a good environment to work on your fitness and for me it’s been quite a lucky place to get goals,” he said.

“Hopefully I can take that on like I did last year and get some game time in the next couple of weeks.”
