West Ham are in talks to sign Benfica and Mexico forward Raul Jimenez, reports the Daily Express.

The news comes after the Hammers come close to completing the signing of Jimenez’s international compatriot Javier Hernandez, who expected to be announced as a West Ham player in the coming days.

After completing the £16 million move for Hernandez, subject to medical, Slaven Bilic will turn his attention to Jimenez as he looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.

Should the Hammers move further for the Benfica forward, he is likely to command a club record fee, with Portuguese newspaper Record (via The Sun) claimed a £39m bid from Everton was turned down earlier this summer.

He is currently the most expensive player in Portuguese football history after he moved permanently to Benfica for around £19.6million last summer.

The 26-year-old scored 11 goals for the Eagles last season, helping Rui Vitoria’s side to a league and domestic cup double.
