Javier Hernandez was last night announced as a West Ham player after completing a £16 million move from Bayer Levekusen.

The former Manchester United player landed in Heathrow in the early hours for a medical, but fans had to wait until the evening to witness their new hitman in Claret and Blue.

The Mexico international returns to the Premier League after three seasons away; one on-loan with Real Madrid and two after moving to Bundesliga side Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. Since his permanent move to Germany, Hernandez has found the net an impressive 39 times in 76 appearances.

Hernandez, 29, becomes West Ham’s 4th signing of the summer after all Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart and Marko Arnautovic joined the club also.

Speaking on the move, Hernandez said he was ‘very happy’ to be a West Ham player and looks forward to continuing his career in England at the London Stadium.
