Marko Arnautovic has revealed he left former club Stoke City for West Ham because the East London club are ‘bigger’ and ‘more ambitious’.

The Austrian joined West Ham nearly two weeks ago for a club record fee of £25 million having spent four seasons with the Potters for whom he signed for in the summer of 2013.

A fan favourite at the bet365, Arnautovic’s most recent comments with regards to his switch are unlikely to go down well with Stoke City fans, who were already upset to see one of the club’s key players move to a Premier League rival.

Replying to comments from Stoke City chairman Peter Coates who said he was ‘disappointed’ in the 28-year-old, Arnautovic said (via the Daily Star): “The one thing I can say is, I am happy to be here and happy to play for West Ham.

“Of course it was tough for me because the fans over the years were very supportive of me, but I came to a point where I wanted to see something different.

“I wanted to join West Ham because, for me, it’s a bigger club and more ambitious. We can see with the signings that we’ve made and the players that are already at the club.”

He added: “I think we have a perfect team and now we have to show it on the pitch.”

West Ham won’t face Stoke until just before Christmas next season, with the first clash between the pair set for December 16th.
