Hammers vice Captain Winston Reid says his recovery is on schedule and is hoping to return to full training soon.

The centre back missed the very end of last season after undergoing surgery on a shin problem, but is now looking to get back into the action ahead of the new season.

While he is yet to make an appearance in pre-season for Slaven Bilic’s side, Reid travelled with his team-mates to Austria and most recently Germany where he has been stepping up his rehab.

Speaking on whufc.com, the New Zealand international said: “Hopefully in the next week or so I should be back, which we were sort of aiming for, generally, the rehab has been really good and the surgery has fixed the problem, which is the most important thing. I’ll be able to go out there and play pain-free, which is a blessing.”

“It was just one of those things that you get every now and then. You get various knocks and bruises and you fix them and this one has been fixed now.”

Reid is not expected to be in the West Ham squad to take on Werder Bremen in back to back fixtures next week for the Betway Cup.
