The moment West Ham fans have been waiting for: Javier Hernandez has finally landed in Germany to join up with his new team-mates after completing his move from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week.

The former Manchester United striker joined the Hammers in a deal worth £16 million from the Bundesliga outfit, two years after West Ham manager Slaven Bilic tried to sign him for the club.

The Croatian was quick to welcome ‘Chicharito’ to the squad, saying:“He’s very important to our project, he’s a very important player.” before adding: “He’s a fantastic player, he’s very experienced.

“He’s been everywhere and has scored goals for Manchester United first then for Real Madrid, for Bayer Leverkusen and for Mexico, and he’s still a boy. You can see it in every game he is happy to play football.”

West Ham take on Werder Bremen tonight in the first leg of the Betway Cup, but it is likely Hernandez will have to wait until next week to make his debut in Claret and Blue.
