New signing Javier Hernandez says he is relishing the opportunity to make his West Ham debut against former club Manchester United on the opening day of the 2017/18 season.

The Hammers travel to Old Trafford Sunday August 13 as they look to kick start the new campaign in style against one of the favourites for next season’s title.

Chicharito – who joined Slaven Bilic’s side from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week – says he is looking forward to the prospect of facing his old side at his former stomping ground.

Speaking on whufc.com, Hernandez said: “Of course I will be very happy to go back there and play. Hopefully I can do as well in that stadium for West Ham as I did when I played for United.

“And hopefully we can get the three points to make a great start to the season.”

Hernandez, 29, left United the summer of 2015 after spending the previous season on loan with Spanish giants Real Madrid. During his four seasons tenure with the Red Devils, he found the net 59 times in 157 appearances, many of those coming from the bench.

“I am very excited,” he said, before adding: I’m very desperate for the season to start now, and help the team to achieve their objectives next season.”
