Sky Sports have reported that West Ham are in talks to sign former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Mexico international has a £13 million release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga club, a fee that West Ham are reportedly ready to match in order to bring him to the London Stadium.

Hernandez has scored 39 times in two seasons in the German top flight after moving to Leverkusen from Manchester United in 2015 for just over £7 million, but now could be set for a return to the Premier League with The Hammers.

The East London side have been in desperate pursuit of a striker this summer so far, with club co-Chairman David Gold promising the club would look to ‘proven Premier League scorers’ instead of untested overseas options.

‘Chicharito’ is certainly the former having scored 59 times in 4 seasons with United between 2010-2014 despite getting most of his playing time from the bench.
