Sky sports pundit Jim White has revealed that West Ham’s deal to sign Marko Arnautovic will cost them a staggering £51 million.

The Austrian is expected to undergo a medical at the club in the coming days, and while the transfer fee for the Stoke City midfielder is thought to be in the region of £25 million, the deal in total will more than double that cost.

Speaking on TalkSport (via The Express), White said: “I understand that the Arnautovic transfer is a deal actually worth £51m. It’s a £25m transfer fee then £26m in wages over five years.

“He’s about to become the best paid player in the club’s history. He’ll earn £100,000 a week over five years.”

The Hammers current transfer record stands at just over £20 million which they paid for Andre Ayew last summer, but the club are set to smash that record for the services for the former Inter Milan star.

Arnautovic will join both Pablo Zabaleta and Joe Hart at the London Stadium, both of whom joined the club from Manchester City this summer.
