West Ham defender Reece Oxford is close to completing a season-long loan move to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, according to reports from the BBC.

The 18-year-old spent the latter half of last season on loan at Championship side Reading, and is now in the final stages of a proposed move to the Bundesliga, with a medical having already been taken by the player.

Oxford became West Ham’s youngest ever Premier League player – the second youngest in the league’s history to start a game – when he made his debut against Arsenal back in the 2015 at the age of just 16 years and 198 days.

Huge things are expected of the teenager who had attracted attention from Manchester United and Manchester City last summer, however at such a young age playing time has been limited for the Englishman.

Monchengladbach two seasons ago took Chelsea youngster Andreas Christensen on-loan and the Dane has since excelled in the German top flight, a fate many West Ham fans and indeed the club hope Oxford can expect to enjoy also.
