West Ham will have to fight off two other Premier League clubs if they want to sign Montpellier striker Steve Mounie, reports Mirror journalist Darren Lewis.

The 22 year old is believed to be a target for the Hammers this summer, but Watford and West Bromwich Albion are also said to be keen. The Benin international had a breakthrough season in Ligue One last campaign, scoring 14 league goals for Montpellier.

Mounie had previously impressed on a season long loan spell at Ligue Two side Nimes two years ago where he hit the back of the net 11 times in 32 appearances.

The forward would no doubt have to adapt to another step up in class if he were to move to the Premier League next summer. The Mirror state the the Ligue One star could cost as much as £13million.

Whether he would be seen as a starter or as a backup for the first eleven, it is not clear, but with Slaven Bilic looking to seal a deal for Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, it seems certain the Croatian does not intend to be left short up front after injuries to key strikers last campaign.
