Reports from The Express suggest that West Ham have joined to race to sign former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez after reports arose that he is set to leave current club Bayer Leverkusen.

Hernandez has spent the last two seasons in Germany, scoring one shy of 40 goals with Leverkusen but is reportedly keen on a move this summer and a return to the Premier League could be on the cards, with West Ham and Tottenham interested in the Mexico forward.

‘Chicarito’ spent 4 seasons as a Manchester United player between 2010-2014, often being used as a super-sub before departing for first Real Madrid and then the Bundesliga, and is the current all time leading scorer for his country with 48 goals.

The 29-year-old would be an excellent addition for both clubs given his track record of scoring in the Premier League. West Ham are desperate to find a striker ahead of the new campaign amidst persistent injury problems with both Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, as are Tottenham who need back-up to Harry Kane following Vincent Janssen’s poor season.

West Ham had previously tried to sign Hernandez back in 2015 before he moved to Leverkusen.
