Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town have made a club record bid of £11.5 million for West Ham target and Montpellier striker Steve Mounie, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The forward, who scored 15 goals last season for the Ligue 1 club, has attracted a number of clubs, with Fulham only recently putting a bid in themselves for the Benin international.

West Ham are also amongst those interested in the Montpellier hitman amidst their own chase for a striker ahead of the new campaign, however it is now David Wagner’s side who appear to lead the chase for the 22-year-old.

The bid from The Terriers is over six times their current transfer record – the £1.8 million paid last summer for German defender Christopher Schindler – and the club hope the offer will be enough to persuade the striker to make the move to the John Smith’s Stadium ahead of their inaugural top flight season.

Mounie is also on the shortlist of several other clubs with West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Leicester City amongst those keeping an eye on the player.
