West Ham have begun talks with the representatives of Olivier Giroud over the potential move of the want away Arsenal star to the London Stadium the summer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 30-year-old striker started only 17 times for the Gunners last season as Arsene Wenger’s side finished outside the top four for the first time in two decades, leading to reports that the Frenchman is ready to part way with the club in search for more regular first time football.

The Hammers pursuit of the striker has been boosted not only by Giroud’s desire to stay in London, but also by Arsenal’s interest in AS Monaco star Kylian Mbappe, for whom they have already had a bid in excess of £80 million rejected by the Ligue 1 club. Should Giroud’s France compatriot move to The Emirates this summer, the former Montpellier frontman would indeed fall further down at the pecking order.

West Ham have struggled in front of goal in recent seasons, and believe the arrival of a proven international – 27 goals in 64 games for France – would be a statement of intent ahead of the new campaign.
