Hammers midfielder Domingos Quina has been called up to Portugal’s U19 squad for the upcoming UEFA European Championship.

The tournament begins early next month, with Portugal beginning their campaign against Georgia on July 2nd before games against the Czech Republic and Sweden in the reminding two group games.

Quina joined the Hammers from Chelsea’s youth ranks last summer, and enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough season with the club, making his full senior debut in the Europa League late last year, as well as being named on the bench an impressive 12 times for Premier League games by manager Slaven Bilic.

The midfielder was an integral part of the Portugal U-17 squad that won the UEFA U-17 European Championships last summer, and Quina hopes he can repeat that feat with the U-19s this summer following his call-up.

Speaking on whufc.com, the 18-year-old said: “I’m not sure if [last year] will help at the start because we have to make sure we get through the group first but if we get through to final, we can start thinking about last year because we won.

“We know we are ready for the competition and we know we have a long way to go to get to the final.”

He then added: “I’m happy to be selected because it’s a unique competition for the U19s and I cannot wait to get started and show people what I can do.”
