West Ham goalkeeping legend Phil Parkes has criticised England goalkeeper Joe Hart following rumours that the club are to make a move for the out of favour Manchester City man this summer.

Sources on social media (via West Ham News) report that the ex-Hammers shot stopper doesn’t understand why the club would move for Hart – who spent last season on loan in Serie A with Torino – with better options available.

“I’ve never really rated him, he makes too many mistakes. I can’t see how the club can justify spending high wages on him.” said Parkes. “There are very few seriously good keepers around anyway. If the club were interested in buying one then Heaton would be a punt.”

Parkes spent 11 years with the Hammers after joining them in 1979 for a then world record fee for a goalkeeper of £565,000, making well over 300 appearances for the club and helping them lift the FA Cup in 1980. The now 66-year-old made only a solitary appearances for England before withdrawing himself from selection from the national team in 1976.

Joe Hart has been rumoured to be open to a move to the London Stadium after it was revealed that he is surplus to requirements at Manchester City.
