West Ham fans have recently compared summer transfer target and Arsenal striker to current forward Andy Carroll amidst rumours the Frenchman is set to move to the London Stadium this summer.
The Hammers remain favourites to land the out of favour France international this summer, but were dealt a blow in the pursuit of the 16-goal-hitman only yesterday after Arsene Wenger stated his club ‘need’ the striker ahead of the start of the 17/18 campaign.
“It has been a frustrating season for him because he has not played a lot. And when he has played well, he has not always played the next match,” said Wenger, before adding: “He has won us a lot of points when he has come on because he has scored lots of times. He has qualities that our team need.”
While the news doesn’t totally rule out a move for the striker by Slaven Bilic this summer, who himself is separate to sign a striker before the club begin their pre-season tour of Europe, it will be greeted with dismay by many West Ham fans, not merely because it appears many of them seem to liken him to current forward Andy Carroll …
