Everton today completed the £25 million signing of highly rated Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen, only days after announcing the club had secured a £30 million deal for Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford.
The Toffees had a brilliant second half to the season last campaign and their spending is a signal of intent that they aim to compete with England’s best next year.
West Ham on the other hand, despite being linked with a host of players from across the continent, are yet to spend a penny.
Rumours are bouncing that the Hammers are set to spend big this money on players such as Olivier Giroud, Anthony Modeste, Michy Batshuayi and Chris Smalling, yet thus far nothing has come of any such rumours.
The closest the Irons have come to making their first move this summer is the signing of Eupen winger Henry Onyekuru after the club had a £7 million bid for the Nigerian rejected. Eupen are asking for only £870,000 more to secure the deal, but again, the club are yet to make their move.
After a poor season and the promise of investment, fans are getting frustrated and the so far lack of spending especially given Everton – a club many Hammers fans see as one they should be competing with in the league.
The fans aren’t happy, and they have taken to the twitter sphere to say so …
