Everton today completed the £25 million signing of highly rated Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen, only days after announcing the club had secured a £30 million deal for Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford.

The Toffees had a brilliant second half to the season last campaign and their spending is a signal of intent that they aim to compete with England’s best next year.

The closest the Irons have come to making their first move this summer is the signing of Eupen winger Henry Onyekuru after the club had a £7 million bid for the Nigerian rejected. Eupen are asking for only £870,000 more to secure the deal, but again, the club are yet to make their move.
