You probably remember the incident. January 2006. Manchester United vs. Blackburn Rovers. Carling Cup semi-final.
“United had just scored a penalty and he [Ferdinand] ran past me to go to the tunnel in the corner at half-time and he nudged me so I chased him.” said Robbie Savage on the most recent episode of Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy podcast.
“I got into the tunnel and booted him up the backside, leathered him up the backside. And then, all of a sudden he’s come at me and clipped me round the head with a right swinger.”
“It all kicked off!” added Savage. “We hated each other, but now we’re quite good friends.”
In promoting the show on Twitter, the former Rovers midfielder tagged his mate and ex-Hammer Rio in the post, but it didn’t take long for Ferdinand to reply.
Clearly seeing in the incident rather differently, Ferdinand tweeted: “Don’t make me call Man United for the CCTV, you know what happened.”
Can’t wait Rio. Can’t wait.
