Everton are targeting West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini as a possible replacement for Ross Barkley, according to the Mirror journalist Darren Lewis.

The Argentinian has been one of Slaven Bilic’s stand out performers this season with eight goals in 38 games in all competitions but Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is seeking a new creative midfielder if Barkley doesn’t sign a new contract, and he is keen on both Lanzini and Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Koeman went public last week about the ultimatum given to Barkley about signing a new deal. He revealed the club had given the England international one week to decide whether hew wants to remain at Goodison Park for the long term. With a year left on his current contract, it seems likely the 23 year old will be sold this summer if the player doesn’t sign on the dotted line.

The Hammers would fight tooth and nail to keep Lanzini; a player they paid £9.4million for just 14 months ago after an initial loan spell.
