West Ham forward Ashley Fletcher says he is taking inspiration from former team mate Marcus Rashford and hoping he will be given the opportunity to shine and establish himself at the Premier League club.

Talking to the club’s official website, Fletcher believes that young English strikers are not given the chances they deserve in the top flight, and he thinks more teams should take note of the likes of Rashford and Tottenham’s Harry Kane who have excelled after being given chances in the first team:

“I look at Marcus Rashford who has taken his chance, stayed in the team and now he’s one of the best strikers in England. The same goes for Harry Kane as well.”

“There aren’t many young English strikers playing in the Premier League, so hopefully next season I can get more game-time and fulfil my ambitions of doing well and playing for this massive Club. I’ll work hard over the summer on my own to get stronger and quicker and I can come.”

Hammers fans have been clamouring to see Fletcher start more matches in recent weeks with the absence of Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho due to the injury.

Manager Slaven Bilic has been reluctant to give the 21 year old starts, naming the forward in the starting eleven just three times in 19 appearances this campaign. His only goal this season came in the EFL Cup tie against his old club Manchester United back in November.
