Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale is poised to sign a two year contract extension to stay with the Seagulls, according to the Mirror, seemingly ending West Ham’s hopes of signing him on a free transfer.

The 31 year old’s current deal expires in the summer and he could have been snapped up by potential suitors for nothing but the former Fulham stopper looks set to remain at the Amex stadium.

Stockdale was named in the Championship Team of the Year after his displays for Brighton this season. The Seagulls have clinched promotion to the top flight, and no doubt that has played a key role in the player deciding to stay on the South coast.

West Ham have been linked with a number of goalkeepers over the past few months, with Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky and Fleetwood Town’s Alex Cairns the latest to beĀ mentioned as possible signings.

Speculation has increased after Darren Randolph was dropped in favour of Adrian for the Premier League game against Everton last weekend, with manager Slaven Bilic appearing to beĀ unconvinced by both goalkeepers.
