West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang says he intends to return to Serie A to play again in the future. He revealed that he did have an offer from Fiorentina but West Ham wanted to keep him at the London stadium

The Spaniard transferred from Sampdoria for £5m in the summer of 2015, and returned to watch the Italian club play Fiorentina yesterday as he continues his recovery from injury. Italian website GianlucaDiMarzio.com caught up with the 25 year old on his return to Italy. He said he is currently happy playing for the Hammers:

“It’s very likely I’ll return to Italy, but I don’t know when. I would return here (Sampdoria) above all else, but you never know. I would certainly like to return, everyone wants to but there are many teams, we’ll have to wait a bit. Fiorentina? There were some simple discussions, but West Ham didn’t want to sell me and I wanted to stay there.”

Obiang will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury he sustained in the 3-2 loss to Leicester City last month, but he will be fit for the start of next season.

After enduring a difficult first season in England, the midfielder established himself in the Hammers’ first team this campaign, making 30 appearances in all competitions before his season ending injury.
