West Ham will reignite their interest in Sunderland centre back Lamine Kone, according to the Mirror.

The Hammers made an attempt to sign the 28 year old in the summer transfer window, and also were interested in making a deal happen in January, but the defender remained at the Black Cats.

With Sunderland looking odds-on to be relegated this season, Kone will almost certainly have potential suitors from Premier League clubs. Along with West Ham, Everton may also still be keen on the Ivory Coast international after making a bid last summer.

Kone signed a new five year contract with Sunderland back in September after only signing from Lorient in the 2016 January transfer window. He made an immediate difference to the Black Cats’ defence but he has had a far less assured campaign this time around.

Sunderland have the fifth worst defence in the Premier League, although they have conceded one less goal than the Hammers, and Kone has featured prominently with 26 appearances in all competitions this season.
