West Ham are interested in signing Cologne striker Anthony Modeste, according to calciomercato.it, but it may take a huge sum for the Bundesliga club to be persuaded to sell.

The Italian website report that the 28 year old was the subject of two “very good” bids from the Chinese Super League in recent months but Cologne rejected both of them to keep their top goalscorer. They also say West Ham did actually make an attempt to sign the Frenchman in the January transfer window but a deal could not be agreed.

It does seem like the Hammers retain an interest in the forward though. His strike rate in the Bundesliga this season has been very impressive with 22 goals in 27 league games.

Modeste joined from Hoffenheim in 2015 for an estimated £4million, but it is likely Cologne will hold out for a substantial sum for the player if they sell in the summer.
