West Ham defender Winston Reid believes that the Hammers’ squad will come out of this season stronger after what he describes as a “roller-coaster ride” of a campaign.

The centre back was at pains to emphasise that the club’s move to a new stadium, and changes in the squad, should not be used as an excuse, but he hopes that the young players in the team use the challenges they have faced this campaign as a learning experience. He told the Daily Star:

“I think we players understand it’s been a tough season because it has been a roller-coaster ride. It’s never easy moving to a new stadium. We had a big turnaround in the squad.”

“It’s not an excuse but we will learn from this experience and we need to do better. We’ve got a young squad and our young players will learn from this.”

The 0-0 draw against Everton on Saturday edged the Hammers closer towards safety but the wins for both Swansea City and Hull City mean Slaven Bilic’s side are still only five points off the relegation zone with four games to go. With matches against Tottenham and Liverpool approaching, the next fixture away at Stoke City is a good opportunity to clinch safety before more difficult games coming up.
