West Ham are set to challenge Everton for the signing of French international goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier, according to reports in France.
Foot Sur 7 report that both clubs see Saint-Etienne’s Ruffier as the ideal solution to their problems between the sticks.
Everton have recently been linked with a move for West Ham’s Spanish goalkeeper Adrian and could be put off of a move for Ruffier if a deal materialises.
If Adrian, who has fallen down the pecking order of late after a number of mistakes, leaves for Everton then the path will be clear for West Ham to strike a deal with Ruffier.
French journo Manu Lonjon revealed that over the past few weeks, three Premier League clubs, including West Ham, have been tracking the Frenchman for a potential summer move.
Darren Randolph is currently West Ham’s first choice shot stopper but doubts have been raised about the Ireland international in recent weeks after a number of shaky performances.
Ruffier is 30 so isn’t too old in goalkeeping years, and would come with a wealth of experience in Ligue 1 for Monaco and Saint-Etienne.
