West Ham are monitoring Daniel Sturridge’s situation at Liverpool and are willing to renew their interest in the striker should a suitable opportunity arise.

The England international has been limited to just five Premier League starts so far this season and could spark a tug-of-war between a number of Premier League clubs, according to ClubCall.

His lack of starts in a Reds shirt has partly been caused by niggling injuries but is also down to Sturridge falling further and further down a pecking order up front topped by Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane.

Klopp is reportedly planning an overhaul of his squad this summer and a new striker is likely to be high on his priorities given Liverpool’s lack of options in the position.

A move to West Ham could be a good decision for Sturridge given Slaven Bilic’s own lack of striking options and the London Stadium’s well-documented desire for a ’20 goal a season’ striker.

But West Ham’s owners could ultimately veto any move by Bilic to secure Sturridge’s services due to his injury record, especially given Andy Carroll’s physical record in a Hammers shirt.

Jurgen Klopp has said that any decision on Sturridge’s future will be made at the end of the season. He said in a recent press conference:

“I have no idea what happens in the summer. It is not only Daniel but a lot of players,” Klopp said. “Daniel was not in training for eight or nine days because of a virus infection. “We have to bring him back to the best shape possible and then bring this season to an end as successfully as possible.

“We have to bring him back to the best shape possible and then bring this season to an end as successfully as possible.

“Then we will make decisions and speak about Daniel and any other players about what will happen at the end of the season. A lot of things will influence this and we can speak about it when it is time.”

ClubCall allege that Bilic will be one of the first in the queue should Klopp decide to allow Sturridge to leave.
