West Ham have joined Chelsea in declaring their interest in Fenerbahce centre back Simon Kjaer, according to Turkish-Football.com.

The website reports sources close to the Turkish club have told them that the Hammers have enquired about the Danish international’s availability in view to a summer move.

Kjaer has 66 caps for Denmark, and has played 77 times for Fenerbahce since his arrival in Turkey from Lille in the summer of 2015. This season the Dane has been paired with former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and it has helped the club keep 15 clean sheets so far this campaign.

Turkish-Football.com‘s sources claimed in the January transfer window that Chelsea had also asked Fenerbahce about the 27 year old, but all offers were rejected by the Turkish Super Lig side.

It remains to be seen whether Fenerbahce will succumb to pressure and allow the defender to leave in the summer. The club are struggling in the league this season, currently sitting in fourth place, ten points behind league leaders Besiktas and they may need to sell some of their key assets if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
