West Ham could make an attempt to sign former Arsenal centre back Johan Djourou on a free transfer in the summer, according to BILD.

Then German newspaper says the 30 year old has yet to agree a new deal with current club Hamburg despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The Swiss international, who played for the Gunners between 2004 and 2014, joined Hamburg on a three year deal, three years ago after a year long loan spell at the club. The defender has gone on to make 104 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga team. Asked about Djourou’s future at the club by Bild, Hamburg sporting director Jens Todt said:

“Nothing is decided, everything is open.”

Djourou was captain of Hamburg until November but he was stripped of the captaincy in favour of Gotoku Sakai by manager Markus Gindol. Bild report that West Ham may have rivals in Crystal Palace who attempted to sign the centre back in the January transfer window.
