One of the key areas West Ham will need to strengthen this summer is right back.

A succession of players including Joey O’Brien, Carl Jenkinson, Alvaro Arbeloa and Sam Byram have struggled to make the position their own in recent years.

Michail Antonio was shunted into the position as a makeshift wing back last season as well as at the beginning of this term, but the player is now back further up the field where he is more effective.

Slaven Bilic was reportedly keen to convert Antonio into a full time right back and the decision may have delayed even further the acquisition of a permanent alternative.

Sam Byram is seen as West Ham’s first choice right back at the moment but has had a difficult time with injuries of late, while Cheikhou Kouyate has filled in in the position over the last three league games.

A new right back simply has to be signed this summer and we think Bilic should be looking at these Premier League five in particular…
