For West Ham it seems like half the footballers on the planet have been linked with a move to the club.

Some transfer targets simply get away but it doesn’t necessarily mean that interest in a player should never be reignited.

Every transfer window that passes the Hammers are linked with rafts upon rafts of players, and it’s only natural that a few of them go on to achieve impressive success here and there.

Players such as Nathaniel Clyne, Wilfried Bony and Wissam Ben Yedder have slipped through West Ham’s grasp in recent years and highlight the danger of not capitalising while you’re ahead in the market.

Clyne could have mended West Ham’s long-running problems at right-back for a number of seasons but instead joined Southampton, who inevitably sold him to Southampton.

Wilfried Bony enjoyed great success as a goal scorer at Swansea after West Ham were linked with the ex-Vitesse striker for months on end – despite him being exactly what the club needed.

Seville’s Wissam Ben Yedder is just another top striker who the Hammers missed out on in recent years before going on to make a success elsewhere.

But that isn’t to say that every former transfer target is now an unrealistic target for the Hammers, and there are a number of talents the club would be wise to revisit.
