With a total of 12 players currently loaned out by West Ham there’s bound to be one or two ready to impress in a claret and blue shirt.
The loan system, in principal, is designed to improve players on the periphery of the squad by allowing them to get minutes in elsewhere rather than rot on the bench or even in a development squad.
But the system hasn’t been too successful for the Hammers in recent years, with very few youth prospects able to transform minutes elsewhere into fully-fledged West Ham careers.
Loaned-out Hammers can however take inspiration from the fact that academy graduates Mark Noble and James Tomkins spent significant time out on loan before going on to make hundreds of appearances in West Ham colours.
