After just two weeks to judge his teammates as a West Ham player Robert Snodgrass has named the club’s ‘magic man’.

Snodgrass and his teammates were bitterly unlucky not to come away with a win against West Brom on Saturday after a calamitous performance from referee Michael Oliver.

Sofiane Feghouli and Manuel Lanzini appeared to have given the Hammers a crucial victory before Gareth McAuley netted an injury-time header to flatten what was one of the London Stadium’s best atmospheres this season.

A number of contentious decisions went against Slaven Bilic’s men – not least a dodgy throw in which lead to the Baggies’ equaliser – and the Croatian was sent to the stands after manhandling a microphone in rage.

January signing Snodgrass was bitterly disappointed not to come away with three points but was wowed by the performance of West Ham’s ‘magic man’ Manuel Lanzini. He told the club’s official website:

“Lanzini is terrific and he’s a game changer. We need to always get him on the ball in those areas and let him do what he does best and that’s pull out moments of magic like that.

“We’re gutted, but as I say, the lads battled so hard to get ourselves in front and get the three points and it’s a devastating way to lose them.”

Lanzini scored one and set up one at the London Stadium on Saturday, his goal yet another long-range effort to add to his already impressive collection.

The Argentine has scored five goals in 22 top Premier League appearances this season, just one goal less than he scored in his 26 top-flight outings last time around.

He and Snodgrass appear to have already struck up an understanding at the heart of the Hammers’ attacking midfield. The Scotsman added:

“Personally, it was never going to be easy for me coming here, it’s tough and you have to work as hard as you possibly can to try and get in the team.

“I’ve managed to do that and the team are very unlucky not to have got six points from my two starts.”
