Belgium star Thomas Meunier joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer after the powerful right back impressed at Euro 2016.

Meunier was the subject of interest throughout Europe after a number of impressive performances in stark contrast to his nation’s dismal campaign.

The 25-year-old was widely tipped with a move away from Club Brugge after the competition, with West Ham, Tottenham and Middlesbrough all said to be interested in the 6’3″ man.

But the big Belgian has now revealed that he rejected approaches from the Premier League in favour of joining PSG, due to their Champions League pedigree. He told TeleFoot:

“I had a choice between six or seven clubs that were really serious with their offers,” he said.

“Most of them came from England: West Ham, Middlesbrough, there was Tottenham at one point.

“In Italy, there was Napoli, where I was truly very close to signing. And then, finally, PSG entered into the race and I had a greater chance of making it in the Champions League with them than with anyone else.”

Meunier has made 14 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG so far this season scoring three goals, an impressive tally for a right-back.

Slaven Bilic’s side have arguably been in need of a right-back of Meunier’s ability for years and will be hoping they’re not rejected in a similar manner this summer.
