Right back has been a problem position for West Ham for a number of seasons now.
Guy Demel, Joey O’Brien, Carl Jenkinson, Sam Byram and Alvaro Arbeloa have all struggled to make the position their own in recent years.
Michail Antonio also failed to cement a place at right back after a brief but colourful stint in the position at the beginning of the season, which saw the Hammers leak goals down their right hand side.
Norwegian midfielder Havard Nordtveit has also stepped in to try and sure up the gap at times, but has suffered from a mixture of niggling injuries and poor form which has seen him fail to break into the starting eleven regularly.
Sam Byram is seen as West Ham’s first choice right back at the moment but has had a hard time with injuries of late, while Cheikhou Kouyate made his first league start as a right back in West Ham’s recent away victory against Southampton.
