West Ham striker Jonathan Calleri has expressed his desire to join former side Sao Paulo in the January transfer window after failing to establish himself at the Hammers this season.

The Argentinian played on loan at the Brazilian side at the end of the last campaign, and talking to ESPN Brasil at the weekend he said he would like to return to a place where he was treated well:

“I always talk to Marco (Aurelio Cunha), with Alexandre (Passaro), who are the club’s lawyers. I’m always in touch because it’s a club that gave me a lot, where I felt very happy. With the club and with the people.I know that it was said a lot that I was also in contact, as I said, with Marco and the lawyer. Obviously you always feel like playing where they treat you well, and in São Paulo that happened.”

Explaining his situation at West Ham where he hasn’t played since a late substitute appearance against Sunderland in late October, Calleri explained he doesn’t feel he has been given enough opportunities with the Hammers and that a return to Brazil may well be an option:

“The truth is that I left the door open for the future to come back. It can happen (now), anything can happen, I’m in West Ham trying to win my place, when you come to a club, you think you’ll have opportunities. Which I did not take advantage of. But I have not played for a long time, so I thought about going back where they treat me well. And in São Paulo they treated me the best way.”

The 23 year old has also been heavily linked with Spanish club Las Palmas in recent days but much will depend on whether the Hammers opt to cut his loan spell short from his club Deportivo Maldonado.
