West Ham left back Aaron Cresswell has backed Manuel Lanzini to make the number 10 role his own at the Hammers. With the club’s previous playmaker Dimitri Payet being made to train with the Under 23s after refusing to play for the club, the full back believes the Argentine can help create the chances for West Ham to score goals instead.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Cresswell feels Lanzini has found his form at the right time after struggling in the first part of the campaign:

“We always knew Manu was capable of that, and we saw it last season as well. We know the whole team had a bit of a dip in the first ten games of this season but he is starting to show what he showed last season. Hopefully for us he will continue that, take the No10 role and take chances and make chances.”

The 23 year old has four goals and two assists in 19 games so far this season. Both his assists came in the last match against Middlesbrough while he also scored against Crystal Palace the week before.

With Payet’s absence since the start of January, the former River Plate player has begun to take centre stage, and as Cresswell says, hopefully he can now maintain his form like he did in the second half of last season.
