West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is considering a surprise move for Stoke right back Glen Johnson, according to the Daily Star. The 32 year old’s contract at the Bet365 Stadium expires at the end of the season, and the former England international has yet to sign a new deal.

Bilic is hoping to persuade the West Ham board to go forward with the deal as he will be available for as little as £1million, the Star reports, because Stoke don’t want the player to leave for nothing at the end of the campaign.

Johnson left the Hammers for Chelsea thirteen years ago in a £6million deal. Since his departure, he has gone on to be capped 54 times for England and was for many years the country’s first choice right back.

West Ham have been considering moves for other right backs, including Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson, to fill the problem right back position but it seems Johnson has emerged as the unlikely favourite to be signed this month.
