Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal is closer to signing a contract extension to stay at the Ligue One club, according to Mercato365. The French website believe the Algerian international will sign on the dotted line, with his current deal expiring in the summer.

The 24 year old would have been free to speak to clubs in January with Mercato365 reporting that West Ham, Villarreal, Everton and Atletico Madrid were all interested in the player on a free transfer.

His departure seemed likely in the summer when Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas told reporters that West Ham had made an offer for the player but it looks as though that a deadlock has been broken in the negotiations over a new contract.

Mercato365 report that Ghezzal will be given a new deal worth between €250,000 and €300,000 a month, which works out to be £63,000 a week, which is a huge amount for a club such as Lyon who have been struggling financially in recent years.
