West Ham and Liverpool will both pursue a move for Sassuolo forward Gregoire Defrel in the January transfer window, according to Gazzamercato.

The Frenchman has had a decent season in Serie A with 10 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions. The 25 year old can either play through the middle or on the right wing, and is known for his dribbling ability and pace.

With the impending departures of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri next month, and Diafra Sakho sidelined through injury, Slaven Bilic is having to rely on Andre Ayew and Andy Carroll up front to score goals. A move for Defrel would allow the Hammers to have more flexibility in attacking areas and provide a greater goal threat.

Liverpool meanwhile are currently without Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge through injury, and Sadio Mane will be playing in the African Cup of Nations in January. Manager Jurgen Klopp therefore looks to be interested in rivalling the Hammers for Defrel to improve his own options in attack.
