West Ham are interested in signing RB Leipzig striker Davie Selke on loan, according to Sky Sports. The German Under 21 international is also believed to be interesting Stoke City.

Selke has been linked with West Ham previously, and although he doesn’t fit manager Slaven Bilic criteria for having Premier League experience, he is young (21) and will be available without the Hammers paying a transfer fee.

The forward moved down a division from Werder Bremen to play for Leipzig in Bundesliga 2 last season and scored ten goals. He has however struggled to dislodge Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner from the first team eleven this campaign. Selke’s father told Sky Germany that the current lack of game time cannot go on, and they will have to consider the player’s future:

“I will not comment on any of these inquiries, but one thing is clear: we want to see a way and a perspective for Davie. His current situation [not playing] must not be a permanent state. The situation is not satisfactory and this is also the responsibility of RB Leipzig.”

Hammers boss Bilic is also considering a move for Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe but a move for Selke looks the more likely if the club have limited funds to spend in the transfer window.
