West Ham midfielder Cheikh Kouyate is hoping the Hammers make some key signings in the transfer window in order to improve the backline and increase the number of players in the squad.
Kouyate has played mostly out of position at centre half this season and he is hopeful that January signings will allow him to move back into a more familiar midfield position. He told Belgian paper La Derniere Heure (translated by the Mirror):
“Every knows I prefer to play in midfield but the coach needs me at the back. The team is of course more important than me so I get on with it and give everything. We should, however, buy in the transfer window. That would allow me to move up the pitch. Some reinforcements would do us good, that is for sure.”
The 26 year old has played at centre back since he started in the position against Crystal Palace back in mid October. He missed the matches against Liverpool and Arsenal recently with a groin strain but returned for the win against Burnley in mid week.
Kouyate will be around to play over the Christmas period but as captain of Senegal, he will be absent for at least month while he plays for his country in the African Cup of Nations in January.
