Former West Ham striker Tony Cottee feels that the interest from Red Bull in buying the London club should be seen as a compliment after the club’s move to a new stadium.

Writing in his column for the East London Advertiser, Cottee likens the London Stadium to a new house, and that after settling in to the new surroundings, the Hammers should feel at home and not look further afield for more investment:

“We have now moved on to the London Stadium and though there is still work to do there, I think it is positive.I liken it to moving house. When you get in there, you miss your old house and the new one needs a bit of tinkering, but in the end it is going to be better.”

“We have had approaches to take us over and I liken that to people knocking on the door of your new house and asking if it is for sale – it is a compliment.”

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan confirmed this week that back in August the club were subject to a £650m bid from “external investors” with many press reports suggesting it was the soft drinks manufacturer Red Bull who made the offer.

The company currently owns four football clubs. Red Bull Salzburg in the business’s home country of Austria, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Brasil, and RB Leipzig in Germany who currently sit second behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table.
