Italian newspaper Il Mattino are reporting that West Ham striker Simone Zaza is still the priority for Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis despite the club’s interest in other forward targets including Genoa’s Leanardo Pavoletti and Sampdoria’s Luis Muriel.

According to journalist Pino Taormina, Laurentiis has been a huge fan since he saw Zaza scoring goals for Ascoli during the 2012/13 season, on loan from Sampdoria, in Italy’s Serie B. He attempted to buy the young striker then but he joined Sassuolo.

Laurentiis attempted to purchase him once again at Sassuolo but he then left for Juventus instead. His third attempt came last summer, and Napoli were believed to be close to an agreement with the player’s agent and father Antonio before the Hammers swept in.

With Zaza now surplus to requirements already with West Ham, and the Italian international unlikely to play the 14 games required to make the deal permanent, Napoli look set to make a fourth attempt to sign the 25 year old.
