Spanish side Espanyol will look to to sign West Ham full back Alvaro Arbeloa on loan in the January transfer window, according to Diario La Granda.

The local Spanish newspaper believes the Hammers would be willing to pay most of Arbeloa’s wages as the 33 year old has failed to establish himself at the London stadium and is reportedly already deemed surplus to requirements.

He has made just two league appearances against Sunderland and Middlesbrough this season and has failed to play a minute of first team football since October.

Espanyol manager Quique Sanchez Flores is keen to shore up his options at right back, according to La Grada. The La Liga club has just one natural right sided full back in Javi Lopez, and has forced holding midfielder and auxiliary full back Victor Sanchez into having to play in the position. Flores’s side are currently twelfth in the La Liga table with 15 points from 12 games.
