Simone Zaza has told West Ham’s official website that he did not expect settling in to be so hard but that he is now ready to show his true ability to the club’s supporters.

The Italian, who represented his nation at EURO 2016, is currently with the Hammers on loan from Juventus but has yet to score in the Premier League.

That has led to criticism from some quarters but a promising display against Crystal Palace last time out suggested more is to come from the striker.

The Hammers won that game 1-0 and Zaza feels he is ready to get going after a slow start: “I feel like I’m performing well now I’m physically fit. I am happy for myself and also for the team because we really needed the win. I feel like we’re turning things around. The manager told me after that he had seen the ‘Real Zaza’ and yes, yes, I agree with that.”

Before adding: “I knew that when I arrived it would be hard, because it’s a completely different league, but I didn’t think it would be this different. I’m gradually getting used to it, feeling more confident and I’m very positive at the moment.”

Zaza should play against Sunderland this weekend as the struggling Black Cats look for their first win of the season but with Andre Ayew soon to be back in the squad after returning from injury, he knows a good performance is the only thing that will keep him in the side.

The Hammers are currently 15th in the Premier League table and could go up to 12th with a win on Saturday if they win well and West Brom lose heavily to Liverpool.
